Leopard, much like spots, stripes and flowers is a classic and ubiquitous print in fashion. But more than its recurring counterparts, leopard print embodies a wild and adventurous spirit, classic Hollywood glamour and something a little more risque than the average. This pretty much sums up our wonderful Leo Collection, which is a guaranteed walk on the wild style side. Today I wanted to tell you a little about the origins of this collection - you know I love nothing more than searching through our archives to bring you some forgotten gems and show you the beautiful craftsmanship that goes into making an MCM handbag.
For our oldest fans, you may remember the Royal Colony Leopard Collection (see below for pages of the 1991 catalogue). The 1991 collection was made for the adventurous kinds, people on a quest for uniqueness and individuality. It is in a similar spirit that we created the Leo Collection, adding to it a playful contemporary twist.
To create our leopard print, we went through a complex process where we analysed actual leopard skins, then existing leopard prints before finally playing around with illustrated prints. Once the result is perfect, our design team applied it to the bags they designed previously. And voila: a star is born!
