Craftsmanship with VERY MCM - The Renaissance of a Classic

In yesterday's post I introduced you to the sophisticated yet casual "Very MCM" line, that was originally created in 1986. The collection is inspired by a new generation of travel hungry fashionistas, who like to combine practicality, elegance and sophistication while sailing the seven seas on their wondrous yachts. For SS13, we revived and reinterpreted the 1986 collection, giving it an even more luxurious feel. 

Today I would like to share with you how we transformed and adapted the range for modern living and a new generation of MCMistas...

It started with the emblem of the collection: in 1986, the range was very sporty and casual. It was younger and more active than our main line offerings. The logo, of course reflected it. Fast forward to 2013, we wanted to convey the line's new found aura of elegance and sophistication as well as its strong link with the heritage of the brand. We kept the yacht and made it more modern and detailed and we then distressed the image a little to give it this vintage feel. What do you think? I love it!

Once we decided on an emblem, it was time to get sketching... Again, we stayed true to the soul of the range and designed three sporty shapes: a tote, a satchel and a duffel bag. All three are a canvas and leather mix and feature the emblem on the front and the MCM logo on the back.

The materials were also updated, gone are the nylon and cotton of the first edition. They have been replaced with leather and a strong linen canvas... With of course a touch of Visetos and detachable leather tassles, all handmade in our workshop in Germany.

And here is the finished product! Do you love it? I love it, especially the little details that make it stand out, such as the detachable tassel and anchor charm, the colour blocked leather and the mix of materials. The linen canvas and leather combination is such a cool and sophisticated look!
