Patricia Field (susperstar stylist, responsible for the Devil Wears Prada or Sex & The City amongst others) has been a fan of MCM since the 1990's, so this collaboration really is a true love affair... "The collaboration originated with a former colleague Marina Storonkin, who worked with me in the 90s. We remained friends through the years to the present, at which time she is a member of the MCM team. This link with Marina brought about my collaboration with MCM." explains Ms. Field.
Field knows the brand inside and out so for her collection, she wanted to utilise the classic MCM shapes and make them lightweight but heavy on style! About her creative process for the collection she says: "As a person who has and continues to use MCM bags, I felt I was very familiar with the product and had developed experience and knowledgeable opinions about the product. This experience lead to the idea that the bag was superiorly made and had a strong brand image. I wanted to add the element of lightness in weight for practicality. This was that element that was the main inspiration of my design." The fabrics she uses in the collection follow-up on the "light as a feather" idea - polyester and canvas.
There are eight different shapes in the line, ranging from backpacks to wallets, totes and handbags. The core of the range is the Martine group where MCM’s iconic Cognac Visetos logo serves as a subtle backdrop for a freehand sketch of a woman’s sultry face. "This is a collection with a strong concept. As such, I believe all of the pieces are equally as strong because all shapes share one single philosophy." concludes Ms. Field.
The collection launch party took place a couple of weeks ago at Patricia's studio on Bowery in NY and became the home of Manhattan's fashion elite for the night. Editors of InStyle, Nylon, Cosmopolitan or ELLE partied the night away alongside socialites, models and celebrity stylists.
The designs were extremely well received and everyone had a blast! Below you will find a selection of pieces from the collection as well as snapshots from the party!
