MCM Spring/Summer 2012 - Introducing Tracey, Kitty & Veronika Isis 31-01-2012: Following last season’s conservative approach to neoclassic revivals, the Spring / Summer 2012 season affords fashion design an urge for eccentricity coupled with a desire to suspend time and to fuse polarities.

Inverting last season’s conservative approach to the neoclassics, The Spring / Summer 2012 season embraces an intentional divorce from everything conventional. As such, fashion design retains a strong element of surprise unveiling the unexpected, thus deconstructing boundaries and reconstructing them in unanticipated fusions which allude to maximalism. One of the biggest themes of the season, therefore revolve around sentiments of freedom.

The inherent eccentricity expressed in Spring / Summer 12’ design conjoin maximalism with simplicity, facilitating greater consistency and uniformity, with an intentional glance toward functionality. This season aims to convey freedom as a breath of fresh air via aggressive colour combinations, a refined eccentricity towards an unexpected functionality

One of the biggest trends for this upcoming Spring/Summer 2012 season found on numerous runways were voluminous & organic accessories featuring layered and patterned geometries with funky-art decors. Contrary to last season, this is a softer evolution from Autumn/Winter 11’s accessories which embodied hard structures, dramatic sharp edges, and classic design simplicities. This season seeks to reinterpret the classics by fusing elements of surprise (via colours & materials) into traditional designs, while embracing a softer more voluminous approach from last season. While intentionally embracing strong contrasts between colours featuring eccentric hues, the products become softer yet strikingly colourful- this season is thus about attitude & bold statements. With a tough-luxe carefree mindset, fashion design becomes like a breath of fresh air with a nouveau-individuality punctuated with a quirky-cool aesthetic
