I am not sure who started the trend, but there is definitely something going on in the world of Football... In the past months, we've seen a few football players stop by our store in London (Djibril Cisse & now Ryan Bertrand) or simply out and about carrying our products (Mesut Ozil in Berlin, for example ). Clearly those men are not only accomplished sportsmen, they also know their stuff when it comes to bags.
Our most recent MCM friend is Ryan Bertrand, Defender for the Chelsea FC since 2005. If you've read my previous post about Djibril Cisse, you will know I don't know the first thing about football. But Chelsea FC a is based not too far from my home and also not too far from the MCM Flagship store... I wonder if that means we will get more visits from players from the team after Bertrand (who sports the number 34) shows off his new B.I.G. Backpack before the next game.
During his visit to the store, Bertrand kindly posed with the store's staff and manager who were all overjoyed to meet the football legend. He was wearing jeans and a tee-shirt illustrated with a photo of Bryan Ferry's album Olympia. Decidedly the man has taste. He left with a B.I.G. Backpack in Cognac. With its very British inspiration and a name taken right out of the sports lexicon - B.I.G. stands for " Back in the Game" - I'd say it is a perfect fit and will no doubt motivate the cool defender to stay focused and... get back in the game!
