This weekend, I took a break from my usual routine and spent Saturday night in a different area of London: The City. In the week, it is a busy business and finance district but at the weekend it turns into a peace haven, punctuated by magnificent architecture.
Nestled in the middle of the City, in between Bank and Liverpool Street tube stations is Threadneedles Hotel. It is a five star boutique hotel set in a converted bank and complete with an underground maze of tunnels and vaults (customers don't get to explore those, sadly!).
The decor is quite formal, as it serves mainly as a residence for high-flying City types during the week, but it doesn't really matter as it is all done very tastefully. Also, there is something to be said about hotels that cater for a business clientele: they never lack plug sockets or a good wi-fi access.
I stayed in the Earhart Suite on the third floor which is airy and spacious - bedroom on one side, living room on the other. I was greeted by a cat made out of rose petals on my bed which I thought was a lovely personal touch. The service was extremely friendly and relaxed yet professional, exactly what I expect from a hotel of this type.
In the morning, I ordered breakfast in the room - New York breakfast complete with pancakes, maple syrup, bacon and fresh berries. Absolutely delicious! So delicious in fact I am still thinking about it now.
I highly recommend Threadneedles if you are in London for a weekend and would like to explore the trendy East side while still being able to relax in a peaceful hotel room. If you are in London on business, Threadneedles is possibly one of the most conveniently located hotels and will act as a home away from home, which is just what you need after a hard day of work.
