MCM x M Magazine Photo Shoot with Leading Ladies Kerry Ellis & Katherine Kingsley

13-07-2012

The M Magazine - the one-stop media locale for all the latest in the illustrious world of musical theatre.  Home to Broadway mavens, production enthusiasts and drama aficionados alike, the M Magazine is a new, fresh publication that aims to bring musical theatre into the 21st century and beyond

The self-appointed (and fan approved!) VOGUE of Musical Theatre, the publication boasts high-fashion, glamour, gossip and sprinklings of edge with a dash of humour on the side.  On Sunday 8 July, the magazine maestro teamed with MCM in a first-time exclusive photo shoot with two of today’s musical theatre’s leading ladies: the enchanting Kerry Ellis and the unforgettable Katherine Kingsley

Parked in front of London’s Royal Opera House, the shoot took place on-board and outside our brilliant Brand Experience route master.  So who are these dazzling virtuosos?  If you don’t follow theatre don’t worry- we’ve got the inside scoop on these starlets right here:

Kerry Ellis:

Recognised as the First Lady of West End musicals, Kerry built a name for herself starting from her starring roles in London and on Broadway, and has achieved chart-topping success as a recording artist signed to Universal Decca with her debut album Anthems.

Kerry originated the role of Meat, in the Queen and Ben Elton musical, We Will Rock You. She was the first British Elphaba in the West End smash, Wicked, for which she won the 2008 Whatsonstage.com Award for Best Takeover in a Role. She then immediately transferred to Broadway and played Elphaba at the Gershwin Theater for six months, where she won the Broadway.com Audience Award for Favourite Female Breakthrough Performance, before returning to London for six months in 2009. Her many leading role credits include Nancy in Oliver! at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, Ellen in Miss Saigon and Fantine in Les Miserables

Katherine Kingsley:

Born and raised in Cambridge, Katherine Kingsley studied acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and at English National Opera's The Knack.

As well as her film, TV and voiceover work, she has worked extensively in theatre at venues such as the Donmar, the Chocolate Menier Factory and numerous West End Theatres.

Katherine has been nominated for two Olivier Awards - one in 2009 for her role as Marlene Dietrich in the Donmar Warehouse production of Piaf!, and the second in 2012 for her role as Lina Lamont in The Palace Theatre/Chichester Festival Theatre production of Singing' in the Rain. She was also nominated for a What's On Stage Award in 2012 for 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Best ensemble).

M Magazine also crowdsourced extras to participate in the photo shoot by using social media and their website, encouraging fans of the accomplished diva starlets to show up and partake in the modish first-time shoot:

We were lucky enough to sneak backstage to get a peek at the shoot - see below for some behind-the-scenes pre-production snapshots:
