The First Lady Collection: A Historic Voyage of Style

Welcome to the fabulous world of our very own "First Lady". Born in the 1980's in Germany and first known as "Hilary", it is a truly timeless classic! There were initially only a handful of shapes of the Hilary/First Lady: a bucket bag, a shopper, a boston and the tambourine shape. They were available in cognac and a little later also in black. The range has evolved through the seasons, new colours, shapes and materials have been added, but the personality of the First Lady remained the same: she is a very elegant woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go and get it. She is powerful and charismatic with a taste for luxury and craftsmanship.

The line changed from Hilary to "First Lady" in 1995 when MCM gifted a royal blue "Hilary" to Hilary Clinton. Mrs Clinton loved the bag and so since then the series has also been known as the ‘First Lady’ collection (briefly also named "Alda"), now one of our classic lines.

Each season, there is a variation on the timeless design. The First Lady comes in many, many colours and has been available in a beautiful croco version since AW12. The various shapes of the bag have been inspired by the changing outfits of First Ladies - they are modern and sleek but with a strong sense of elegance and poise.

This Spring-Summer, the First Lady puts on her nautical colours in royal blue and red, with dashes of sunshine yellow.
