MCM Presents Media Art Collaboration

We are delighted to present our first contemporary media art exhibition entitled "Timeless Journey: Handmade Time", featuring New York based artist Jaye Rhee & German artist Torsten Lauschman in Hong Kong.  

Our first media art collaboration explores the dance of simultaneity between the boundaries of analogue and handmade, seeking the creative meaning of eternal time. Both artists were inspired by MCM's heritage of travel and tried to translate the spirit of zeitgeist into a modern aesthetic, representing MCM’s cultural cross over between art and fashion. 

The internationally renowned New York-based artist Jaye Rhee presents MCM’s logo artwork using a handmade hourglasses while Torsten Lauschmann introduces a video created from a functioning digital clock. The hourglass symbolises the eternal value of MCM ‘s timelessness. It was filmed in high-definition on a mosaic/grid-like format, restructuring MCM’s logo. The digital clock represents hand crafted time.

The exhibition is expected to unveil for the first time at MCM Haus during the Hong Kong Art Fair, and the opening party will be held on 18^th of May. The exhibition will last until the end of August. 

This is a very interesting project for MCM to play such an active role in as art is such an important part of our craft. In the past few seasons, we have collaborated with artists such as Richard Wood or Craig Redman on bag ranges that further enriched our vision. Art and fashion are so intrinsically linked, this collaboration makes complete sense and I hope there will be many more to come in our future! - Laetitia

Torsten Lauschman is a German artist based in Glasgow. He has been on the rise in the art world in the past few years and he is well known for his use of extremely varied materials in his artwork. 

Jaye Rhee was born and raised in Seoul, studied at the Art Institute in Chicago. Her work has been exhibited at Kobe Biennale 2007 (Japan), Queens Museum of Art, Bronx Museum, Aljira Contemporary, Galerie Gana Beaubourg (Paris), Chicago Cultural Center and Kyeonggi Museum of Modern Art (Seoul).
