As you know, something exciting is happening at MCM: we are participating in Cycle 21 of Tyra Banks' hit reality TV show America's Next Top Model!! In case you aren't familiar with the show because you have been living in a cave since 2003, it is a reality TV series and interactive competition that airs on The CW. It sees several women (and now also men) take part in various challenges to become America's Next Top Model and earn a contract with a major international agency, a spread in one of the world's leading publications as well as a campaign for a cosmetics brand. The programme is hosted by Tyra Banks, former supermodel turned creative entrepreneur. She is joined by a panel of judges that vary depending on the cycle. One of the judges that has been here with Tyra since the beginning is J.Alexander, also known as Miss J, a runway coach living in Paris. In this season, they are joined by American photographer Yu Tsai who will replace Johnny Wujek as the show's Creative Consultant.
The first ANTM shoot featured our AW14 collection and this time they took it a little further using our RTW collection in this latest shoot. While the first MCM x ANTM shoot was somewhat futuristic looking, this new rendition takes a wink at the past where the aspiring supermodels were asked to embody two superstar icons: Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe. I think you will agree these are quite big boots to fill, even for the best models out there!
Let's have a look at the photoshoots of the two models who were styled in MCM for this challenge. First up we have Will, originally a dancer trying to make it as a model. As a dancer, he picked one of the most typical King poses - legs wide, knees bent and a lot of attitude... He is wearing a biker jacket from our Flower Boys in Paradise collection. His taste of course impeccable: this is the same jacket I chose to wear for our Bloggers Photoshoot
I think his inspiration was Elvis in his Jailhouse Rock period... What do you think?
Our second model is Adam who decided to portray the King armed with a guitar! As if impersonating Elvis wasn't hard enough on the charisma muscles, Adam took on the additional challenge of carrying a guitar for his shoot. It is an interesting prop, but did he do enough with it? One thing only is for sure: his shiny MCM blazer is definitely something Mr Presley himself would have worn.
His inspiration was a somewhat older Elvis. Still pretty cool, right?
