MCM Opens in Printemps du Louvre, Paris

I had a feeling that this week was going to be filled with good news. First, we opened a new pop-up boutique in Selfridges (London, where I live), and now we are also opening a concession inside the brand new Printemps du Louvre in Paris (my home town). Seems to me MCM is everywhere these days, and it is for the best!

The Printemps is an iconic Parisian department store that opened in 1865 on the very grand Boulevard Haussman. It is very much a pioneer of luxury, fashion and French chic. The Printemps du Louvre is the latest Printemps store to open and its 2500 m2 are entirely dedicated to luxury. Shopping for the perfect bag under the most famous museum in the world? Why not! The best thing about it is that unlike most Parisian shopping destinations, the luxury department store is open 7 days a week, even on Sundays. The store was designed by renowned Italian architect Antonio Citterio's design firm. It combines majestic volume and noble materials and is in complete harmony with the Carrousel du Louvre.

I am sure most of you know the Louvre already, but just in case, here is a little more information about this prestigious Parisian landmark and its underground shopping centre the Carousel du Louvre...

The Louvre or Louvre Museum (French: Musee du Louvre) is one of the world's largest museums and a historic monument. A central landmark of Paris, France, it is located on the Right Bank of the Seine in the 1st arrondissement (district). Nearly 35,000 objects from prehistory to the 21st century are exhibited over an area of 60,600 square metres (652,300 square feet). With more than 9.7 million visitors each year, the Louvre is the world's most visited museum.

Underneath the Louvre is The Carousel du Louvre, an underground shopping mall. Its name refers to two nearby sites, the Louvre museum and the Place du Carrousel. The mall contains the famous Pyramide Inversee (the inverted pyramid), which plays an important role in the best-selling book The Da Vinci Code.

The shopping mall is located at 99 Rue de Rivoli in the 1st arrondissement. The mall is located near the Tuileries Gardens, the Comedie-Francaise, the Musee d'Orsay and the Louvre

The mall is 10,200 square meters. It was opened in October 1993. The shopping mall contains one of the few entrances to the Louvre museum.

Before I show you images from the actual MCM store, let me also give you a bit of extra information about Antonio Citterio:

Antonio Citterio is an Italian furniture designer and industrial designer who lives and works in Milan.

Citterio graduated in architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and since 1972 has worked for many leading manufacturers such as Ansorg, B&B Italia, Flexform, Flos, Iittala, Hansgrohe, Inda, Sanitec Group,Kartell, Arclinea and Vitra. Maxalto, a B&B Italia brand, is designed and coordinated entirely by Antonio Citterio. He has also been engaged in architectural works dealing with construction projects and interiors both in Italy and abroad. He holds lectures and conferences all over the world and his work has been extensively exhibited and published.

He has won many prizes, among which the prestigious Compasso d’Oro in 1987 and 1995. His products are part of the MoMA permanent collection and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.

As you can see, there is plenty of prestige going around in this particular Parisian location... History meets culture meets contemporary design meets... a world of luxury and style. In summary: a perfect new home for MCM!

Currently at the Printemps du Louvre there is an exhibition entirely dedicated to bags.

I wouldn't mind if this display wall was actually in my room and those bags were actually mine.

The general aesthetic of our Printemps du Louvre concession is different from the usual concept of our stores: here the design is darker, with only touches of reflective surfaces bringing flashes of light to it. Our new collection is so colourful it speaks for itself.

Looks like our favourite MCM dog made it to Paris, here we call him "le chien MCM".

What's French for "colourful bags"? Des sacs colores. Oh la la!

Will our limited edition backpacks give you an extra incentive to travel to Paris? Oh oui!
