Choi is a 21-year-old fashion blogger and model living in Seoul. He likes listening to music and observing fashionable people in the trendy districts of the city. His style is driven by minimalism, and using fine details that rise from a colour-matched palette.
On the day of his MCM interview, Choi took us to his favourite part of Seoul, which often serves as his source of creative inspiration. He chose a style that made his MCM backpack the centrepiece of his look.
MCM: Describe your style
Choi: I like to go for a mixture of minimalism, colour match and clothing details. For the MCM shoot, I wanted to accent and enhance the backpack and its studded accessories, so I went with a minimalist style.
MCM: Who’s your style icon?
Choi: I find myself being influenced by the work that comes from Dior Homme, the menswear division of the French house. Kris Van Assche, the creative director, puts out incredible work. He has impeccable taste, and I love the way that he designs very wearable clothes. His designs work on the catwalk, but ? more importantly ? they work on the street.
MCM: What’s the most essential item in your backpack?
Choi: Each time I leave the house, I take three items: a beanie, candies and my USB drive. If I could only pick one, I really don’t know which I would take.
MCM: Do you remember your first backpack?
Choi: I don’t remember, but I must have got it for school. When you’re a child, backpacks are very functional, and that’s something we need to remember as adults. MCM backpacks are attractive, but they’re also strong, durable and functional. Some accessories feel like a burden, but my MCM backpack feels like an extension of me.
MCM: What do you do in your downtime?
Choi: Fashion and clothing are really important to me, so I like shopping and trying on new clothes. And I really like watching fashion shows, because I get lots of inspiration that carries through to my blog and even my modelling.
MCM: What inspired your choice of location?
Choi: I took you to one of my favourite places in Seoul. There are lots of fashionable people that hang around there, so you can’t help but feel inspired, intrigued and delighted. You get a whole range of emotions just from looking around.
Thank you so much, Choi! We like your MCM backpack style!
